Specialist Craft
Lime plastering & lime pointing
Lime is the traditional finish for Monmouthshire's period homes and listed buildings - and it's a craft that demands genuine specialist knowledge. We work with lime putty, hydraulic lime and hot-mixed lime to deliver finishes that are authentic, breathable and built to endure.
Breathable & Sustainable
Lime allows historic buildings to breathe, managing moisture naturally and preventing damp - unlike modern cement.
Built to Last
Lime is flexible and self-healing, flexing with movement rather than cracking. Many lime finishes endure for centuries.
Heritage Craft
Specialist skill built over years. The right mix, application and curing for period and listed buildings across Monmouthshire.

"I love sitting in that room now - it's transformed"

Abergavenny, Monmouthshire
Victorian Railway Cottage
Lime Plastering & Damp Remediation
The Challenge
A persistent corner of damp on the ground floor, where modern cement-based finishes had trapped moisture in the historic fabric of the building.
The Solution
Charles was the only builder among those consulted who genuinely considered traditional breathable materials. He designed a lime plaster system tailored to the cottage - explaining every step, considering the aesthetic of the entire job, and recommending the best routes to complement the property's Victorian character.
The Outcome
The damp was resolved at its source using breathable lime finishes that allow the historic walls to manage moisture naturally. The room was completely transformed - warmer, drier and in keeping with the period of the home.
“Charles was unique amongst the builders we spoke to in being able to consider the use of traditional breathable materials in addressing a corner of damp we had in our ground floor in Abergavenny. He explained everything clearly to us and considered the aesthetic and finish of the entire job, even recommending the best routes for us and being generous with his time in designing the best solution for our house that complimented the character of the house being a Victorian railway cottage. He was extremely articulate and supportive in his communication style and we were reassured at every step - it really felt like co-creation!”
